Picture Retake: Thursday, Oct. 23rd

Retakes will happen this week. If a family would like to take a retake picture, they will need to bring back their other packet with them that day. We will also take pictures of new students and any students who were absent on the original picture day.

We will not be taking a picture of every student on this date. There will be another opportunity for spring pictures and class pictures next semester.

This Friday....9 Week Awards.

Friday, October 24th at the assembly, we will honor Perfect Attendance (K-5th), and A and A/B Honor Roll (1st -5th) for the 1st Quarter.

Threats are No Joke PSA

Next week, we will be talking to 4th and 5th graders about the importance of speaking up and not using words or phrases that are threatening. We will be viewing the video and using the lesson plans in the "Toolkit" below.

For all other families, you may view the "toolkit" from the flyer attached and use it to have conversations with your child at home if you choose.

THINK

Mrs. Copeland has been talking to students (especially in 5th grade) about how to THINK when sharing information or talking about or with others. When talking to your student, ask them to THINK about what they say.

Is it TRUE?
Is it HELPFUL?
Is it INSPIRING?
Is it NECESSARY?
Is it KIND?

By using the same language, we can all help our students be respectful of their words.

Grow Your Brain - Be in School - On Time, Every Day!

We appreciate your ongoing support in helping your child succeed in school. One of the most important ways to set them up for success is by making sure they are at school every day and on time.

Every minute counts — when students arrive on time and attend regularly, they’re more connected to their learning, their classmates, and the routines that help their brains grow strong!

We understand that mornings can be busy and that illnesses do happen. If your child is feeling unwell, of course, we want them to rest and recover. But if they’re feeling well, being at school and arriving on time gives them the best chance to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

Let’s work together to build great habits that support every student’s learning and growth.

Our attendance is much better this week!

Here are our attendance policies:

  • Our school day begins at 7:45 AM.
  • Any arrival after 8:00 AM or before the end of the school day is considered a partial absence and will count as unexcused unless you have a medical/ counselor note.
  • If your child is sick, please call the school nurse or office to notify us. They can be excused by a medical professional or by our nurse, Mrs. Garrett, if she assesses them.
  • If your child is absent, notify the school by phone or email. The district policy will allow up to 3 excused "notified" absences for things like unexpected sicknesses.
  • To have an absence excused by a professional, bring to school or email (ssims@mfisd.org) a note from a doctor, dentist, or counselor.

For unexcused absences:
You will receive an automated district email when your child has three unexcused absences. After five to seven unexcused absences, you'll get another notification and a call from the school to sign a Truancy Prevention Form. On the 10th unexcused absence, your child is considered truant.

This policy applies to all students enrolled in public school, ages 3 and older.

If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Carpenter or Mrs. Brantley. Let's work together to ensure your child is on time and ready to learn!

End of Day:

Students will be released at 3:15 pm.

RIDE CHANGES: If you have a ride change, notify Sarah Sims at ssims@mfisd.org.

Send a ride change email BEFORE 2:45pm.

PLEASE NOTIFY THE OFFICE EVERY TIME THERE IS A CHANGE. Following this procedure for ride changes is necessary to ensure that students go to the correct pick-up place for dismissal.
